The Cutaway Conversations Reveals the Stories Behind Sydney’s Landmark Event Venue

31 Aug 2026

The Cutaway, a NSW Government project delivered in partnership with Placemaking NSW, ICC Sydney and Darling Harbour Live, has revealed The Cutaway Conversations, a new docuseries exploring the stories, people and ideas that have shaped one of Sydney’s most distinctive cultural and event destinations.

Filmed across ICC Sydney’s A Quick Yarn podcast studio and within The Cutaway itself, the series offers audiences a rare behind-the-scenes look at the venue’s connection to Gadigal Country, architectural vision, construction journey, cultural significance and future role within the Barangaroo precinct.

Through conversations with First Nations knowledge holders, artists, designers, architects, construction, placemaking and venue operation leaders, the six-part series reveals the thinking, collaboration and cultural storytelling embedded within the venue’s design and operation. Topics range from the First Nations cultural heritage that informed the venue’s design to the craftsmanship behind its architectural elements, to the engineering challenges of creating the space beneath Barangaroo Reserve, and the role The Cutaway plays in bringing people together through shared experiences.

The episodes feature conversations with representatives from Bangawarra, Pink Puggle, FJC Studio, FDC Construction & Fitout, Placemaking NSW, alongside ICC Sydney.

ICC Sydney, Chief Executive Officer, Adam Mather-Brown said: “The Cutaway is a distinctive venue designed to host events that make a difference. Through The Cutaway Conversations, we’re amplifying the voices that helped bring this remarkable space to life, while highlighting its role in activating the city, and potential to inspire generations to come. We hope the series helps audiences appreciate not only what The Cutaway is, but why it matters.”

Episodes are available via ICC Sydney’s digital channels and website.
