Celebrating the state’s top winemakers at ICC Sydney

16 Nov 2022

Situated in one of the most stunning and visited cities in the world, ICC Sydney, proudly managed by ASM Global, has access to some of the nation’s best wines produced in our very own home state, New South Wales. The talents of our winemakers have been proven time and time again and we are fortunate to offer some of the best of the state’s wines here at ICC Sydney through our 100% NSW wine list. After recently having had the privilege to attend two of the state’s biggest wine shows; the Hunter Valley Wine Awards and Orange Wine Awards, along with hosting the ICC Syndey NSW Wine Awards, I’ve witnessed firsthand the resilience, innovation and skill of our winemakers in overcoming the challenges of the last few years to produce top quality wines.

The annual ICC Sydney NSW Wine Awards is a significant event for our venue, acknowledging and celebrating the outstanding achievements of our region’s top winemakers, and displaying our ongoing support for local producers. Managed by the New South Wales Wine Industry Association, the show is open to all wineries in New South Wales showcasing the level of expertise and experience of these producers through the quality of NSW wines. ICC Sydney’s wine collection is made up of 100 per cent New South Wales wines. To serve local wines to our delegates while attending a conference in Sydney and tell the stories of these local winemakers and how their wine is made is equally as important.

We were delighted to host and sponsor the ICC Sydney NSW Wine Awards at our venue for the fourth time, welcoming the state’s best wineries and winemakers. The past few years have certainly not come without its challenges. While recovering from the damaging impacts of drought, bushfire and the COVID-19 pandemic, winemakers have also had to overcome the loss of two vintages with unusually wet conditions which have significant impacts on both the land and producers. Despite these challenges, our region’s winemakers have continued to come out on top, displaying their extraordinary talent and producing these award-winning wines.

My warmest congratulations to all the winners of the 2022 ICC Sydney NSW Wine Awards. I would like to give a special mention to our partners, De Bortoli, See Saw, Printhie and Tyrrell’s Wines who all picked up trophies for their exceptional wines in this year’s awards with the 2013 Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon picking up three trophies including best wine of the show.

ICC Sydney has been commended for its extensive list of local wines winning the 2022 NSW Sommelier’s Wine List Awards for Best NSW Wine List in a Sydney venue over 40 seats. We were also awarded the inaugural President’s Awards for Outstanding Support of the NSW Wine Industry in the 2019 New South Wales (NSW) Wine Industry Association Awards.

ICC Sydney is proud to have a strong network of partners across the state including multiple producers in the Hunter Valley, the Riverina, Orange and Tumbarumba wine regions. Our wine list features a spectacular range of premium sparkling, red, white, rosé and dessert wines. Alternative varieties are well represented including Italian and Spanish styles that are well suited to Australia’s warmer climate, offering a unique taste to our wines that is found nowhere else.

The Riverina region performed particularly well at the show. The region produces the largest quantity of wine in NSW, has some of the best value Australian wines that you can find and produces Australia’s very best dessert wines. The best red wine of the show, Nugan Estate 2020 Cookoothama Shiraz, is a perfect example of the region’s quality and value.

Additionally, sustainable producers and organic farming continue to see huge success and popularity within the state. Standouts include the first carbon neutral winemaker in Australia – Ross Hill Wines in Orange, Margan Wines in the Hunter Valley as well as organic producers Tamburlaine and See Saw — who won the trophy for best organic wine at the show.

We are so pleased to be able to show our support once again for the wine producers of New South Wales and to reconnect and celebrate their success over the last year. With strong numbers of banquets and end of year celebrations ahead, event attendees will continue to enjoy the best of what our region has to offer.
