ICC Sydney’s 100% Local approach champions Orange wine producers

With another 30,000 bottles of premium Orange wine purchased in the last financial year, the team from International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), managed by ASM Global, returned to the city of Orange in Central West New South Wales (NSW) this week to celebrate the region’s thriving wine industry and strengthen its connection to its network of producers.

ICC Sydney CEO and ASM Global (APAC) Director – Convention Centres, Geoff Donaghy said following a bumper year that saw the venue welcome over one million visitors to   500 events from conventions to exhibitions, gala dinners and entertainment concerts, and a healthy pipeline of events on the horizon — ICC Sydney would continue its commitment to champion local Orange producers.

“ICC Sydney has purchased more than 130,000 bottles of premium Orange wine   since opening in December 2016 and the team is committed to continued investment in the quality and diversity of wine from the region.

“Wines from the Orange region make up one quarter of our list of 100% NSW wine list, and the venue orders as many as 30,000 bottles of premium Orange wine per year.    Our commitment to offer premium NSW wine, as well as fresh produce from local farmers, enriches the dining experience of our clients and delegates.

“The trip was an excellent opportunity for the venue team to strengthen ties with its network that is producing award winning wines and exceptional food,” Mr Donaghy said.

Swinging Bridge Wines CEO, and Immediate Past President of the Orange Region Vignerons Association (ORVA), Tom Ward praised ICC Sydney for its continued dedication to the region and said it has reaffirmed itself as a cellar door to the world.

“High volumes of business activity at ICC Sydney directly contributes to the economic performance of Sydney as well as regional areas, including Orange.

“The continued backing by ICC Sydney of regional NSW even through the tough times is an amazing tribute to the strength of the relationship. The continued support of ICC Sydney has allowed regions like Orange to showcase the best local product to visitors from around Australia and the world,” Mr Ward said.

While in Orange, members from the venue team met with existing partners as well as prospective local vignerons to sample new products alongside sponsored the ‘Best Exhibitor’ category of the 2023 Orange Wine Show Awards, which recognises the achievements of the region’s winemakers.

ICC Sydney’s Sommelier and Food and Beverage Manager, William Wilson, whose recent accolades include the 2023 NSW Sommelier’s Wine List Awards for ICC Sydney’s outstanding selection of premium local wines, remains enamoured with wine, drinks and produce from the region.

“The entire Central West and Riverina regions have earned a sound reputation for making superb wine and this visit was a fantastic opportunity to support the wine producers of Orange. As Orange is constantly evolving, we reconnected with our partners as well as celebrating the winners of this year’s Orange Wine Show. Similar to our continued support and sponsorship of the NSW Wine Awards, the Orange Wine Show is a great opportunity to discover the latest and best vintages from across the region.

ICC Sydney has sponsored the Best Exhibitor of Show accolade at the Orange Wine Awards for the sixth time – a category that was won by Swinging Bridge Wines – one of the venue’s many local wine suppliers.
