CEO Update – June 2024

24 Jun 2024

Bujari Gamarruwa (Good day in the language of the Gadigal People),

This month I shared that after 30 years of venue management with ASM Global, I plan to step down from my full-time role as CEO of ICC Sydney at the end of August. It is with great pride that I reflect on the milestones of the past three decades. I want to express my appreciation to my network of event partners from around the world for the support and collaboration on thousands of business events over the years. It has been an absolute privilege to serve our teams, clients and community.

The team here at ICC Sydney has achieved many accolades, but I am most immensely proud of our investment in the strength of our people, and our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. I have every confidence that these important legacies will continue into the decades ahead.

Innovation is part of our DNA here at ICC Sydney and we recently upgraded our internet network to Wi-Fi 6 and 6e capable infrastructure, bolstering our world class event delivery services. As we welcome ever-expanding local, national and international events and growing numbers of attendees of all generations that expect high-tech solutions, we are proud to have further strengthened Sydney’s position as one of the world’s most desirable business events destinations.

In a first for Australian convention centres, ICC Sydney was elevated to Silver Tier status in Pride in Diversity’s Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) as announced at the Australian LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Awards.

From the outset, we have strived to ensure ICC Sydney is a place where every visitor to arrive through our doors is respected, treated with courtesy and warmly welcomed. The AWEI accolade reaffirms our team’s dedication to continuing to meet the highest national standards with regards to workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our Accessible and Inclusive Events Guide can support you to create welcoming events for your diverse delegates.

I recently spoke at the Tourism and Transport Forum Outlook Tourism Conference panel on ICC Sydney’s approach to accessible events – and in particular the importance of combining Accessibility with Attitude. Beyond ICC Sydney’s accessible amenities, our team is committed to elevating the customer experience at the venue to ensure everyone feels welcome and respected at events. Our latest event case study highlights an expanding exhibition – Sydney Build, that is also driving great social impact and strengthening our community.

I look forward to welcoming you at ICC Sydney soon.

Yours faithfully,

Geoff Donaghy
